Social Democratic Party (SDP) has observed with deep concern the sustained campaign of media propaganda orchestrated by the estranged Sadiq Abubakar Gombe regarding matters that are already pending before a competent court of law.
Imagine waking up to yet another headline twisting facts about a matter already before a competent court of law.
It is not only prejudicial but outright contemptuous to continue public commentary and propaganda on a case that is sub judice , actively pending before the courts. Mr. Sadiq Abubakar Gombe, despite having initiated legal proceedings at the Magistrate Court, has persistently resorted to media trials, mobilizing sections of the press to litigate his grievances in the court of public opinion rather than allowing the judiciary to adjudicate the matter with the dignity and impartiality it deserves.
This must stop.
Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) explicitly guarantees every citizen the fundamental right to a fair hearing. This sacred constitutional provision demands that allegations be tested in the courtroom through credible evidence, cross-examination, and due process , not through sensational press statements, orchestrated campaigns, or propaganda designed to prejudice the mind of the public and, by extension, the court.
The Nigerian Judiciary is independent, resilient, and cannot be intimidated or swayed by media noise. As the law firmly states: He who alleges must prove. The burden of proof lies squarely in the courtroom, supported by facts and evidence, not media spin or emotional manipulation. Mobilizing journalists and flooding the airwaves does nothing to strengthen a case , it only undermines the rule of law and erodes public confidence in our institutions.
We urge Mr. Sadiq Abubakar Gombe to immediately cease this prejudicial media trial, withdraw inflammatory publications, and allow the court to perform its constitutional duty without external pressure.
Justice delayed by propaganda is justice denied. Let the courts speak – and let truth prevail.
The rule of law is the foundation of our democracy. We stand firmly for it. Nigerians deserve better than trial by media.
