The attention of the Social Democratic Party SDP has long been drawn to the foot dragging, non-response and inaction of the independent National Electoral Commission to issue a statement compliance with several glaring court judgements on the leadership status of the party.
While it was very clear that the verdicts have addressed all knotty issues, INEC on the other hand seemed to have assumed a disturbing but undemocratic dimension on the matter. The SDP is a bastion of Democracy with a history that believes in Due process.
Our conviction is that INEC Will not be a party to anti-Democratic Forces in whatever guise possible. We therefore want the commission under the leadership of the able professor Joash Ojo Amupitan SAN to act in dignity by respecting the judgements of the Federal High court and the supreme Court that Conferred Legitimacy of leadership on Alhaji Shehu Gabam and anchored on the Certification of the Convention of the party by the Commission.
It is the view of the leadership of the SDP; it's teeming members and supporters nationwide including Democratic institutions that any delay in issuing a statement sends a very negative and wrong signal of retrogressive proportion in this Direction.
